Sustainable Energy First sponsored and was on the judging panel for the Green Business of the Year category at the 2023 BIBAs and therefore got the opportunity to get a closer look at the nominee’s sustainability strategy. This meant deep diving into their values, processes and net zero plans. It was clear to see the sheer determination and passion to prioritise the environment, all completely different sectors involved that all share the same value; to make a difference.

We had the honor of presenting the Green Business award to The Senator Group, an independently run Lancashire business. The company’s commitment to their net zero journey remained apparent throughout the judging process as both large and finer details were greatly considered all the way from the design process to the manufacturing of the furniture. It’s clear to see that The Senator Group’s sustainability vision is more than just a tick list and that the goal to be green runs through the core of the team.

The journey should be on-going, which is exactly what they demonstrate. Conscious choices within the company, managing scope 3 emissions and having genuine care is essential when it comes to winning such an award. It really was our pleasure to award The Senator Group who are deserving, sustainability trailblazers in the furniture industry with their mission to achieve net zero by 2030.

On the night of the awards, it was great to see Lancashire businesses come together and celebrate. The North West Chamber really did put on a show, a room filled with inspiration and entertainment. A huge congratulations to the winners and all participants of each category, well done! A huge thank you to the Chamber too for all the hard work that goes into organising the BIBAs, and for our continued partnership together. Of course, thank you to our fellow judges; Sophie Addison (Addison Group), Alban Cassidy (Cassidy + Ashton), Celia Gaze (The Well-Being Farm), John Maddock (E-Mission) and Helen Maddock.
